- 1979-83: An innovator, thinker and a passionate speaker, Bikram was among the core group of professionals who joined HCL in its infancy and his contributions, as one of the key Market Development Managers, have gone a long way in establishing the market presence that HCL commands today. As the Market Development Manager, his team consolidated HCL's position into the leading computer manufacturer in the country.
- In 1984, Mr. Dasgupta set up Pertech Computers Limited (PCL), and as a Promoter-Director, steered the company through the initial difficult years. He took a leading role in managing such diverse functions as Sales & Marketing, Hardware Service, Software Development, Human Resources, International Business Development and new strategic projects, elevating the company to the position of the No.1 PC manufacturer in India.
- In this journey, he initiated far-reaching changes into the IT business landscape. Significant amongst them has been the largest single (US$ 50 million) export contract from Dell Computer, USA. The unique two-way relationship with Dell he established in 1991 paved the way for easy availability of the world quality computers in India at reasonable prices. The business model, later adopted by many, marked the beginning of duty slashing in hardware in India.
- In 1992, he conceived & set up the fully automated Surface Mount Technology (SMT) based plant, first of its kind in India, to manufacture computer Motherboards for export heralded a new dimension in hardware exports in the country. He scaled up the capacity to 10,000 motherboards a month in June 1993.
- During 1992-96, Bikram Dasgupta, as Chairman of IT-Asia, organised the South East Asia's largest I.T. Trade Fair, "IT-ASIA" in Pragati Maidan, beating the Taipei IT fair, which was till then the largest.
- Between 1990-1994, Mr. Dasgupta was on the Executive Council of MAIT, and as the Chairman of its Export Promotion Committee, has led many international delegations.
- In 1995, Bikram Dasgupta conceptualised Globsyn as a group of companies, which embodies a business model built around the fundamental concept of Infrastructure and Institution for the knowledge economy.
- INFINITY - the intelligent City, the first phase of which was inaugurated in Calcutta on February 23rd 2000, by Sri Jyoti Basu, the then West Bengal Chief Minister, has been conceived and built as a fully wired infrastructure for Software and Telecom companies by Bikram Dasgupta. This ambitious project has been implemented within three years and has already created a unique position for itself in the country.
- It has been Mr. Dasgupta's lifelong zeal to develop young minds that are able to face the challenges of modern workplace and be productive from day 1. In this mission he conceptualised and pioneered the Globsyn Knowledge Finishing School SystemTM which would bridge the growing gap between academics and industry through industry relevant programmes in a world class infrastructural setting.
- This ahead of time concept found expression through Globsyn Software Finishing School (GSFS) programmes at TECHNOCAMPUS in 1997, the then IBM Center for Excellence.
- The concept of Finishing School has found wide industry acceptance over last five years thereby encouraging Globsyn to extend the model to set up Globsyn Business School (GBS). Conceptualised as India's first Corporate B-School, GBS today is among the fastest growing B-Schools with state-of-art campuses in Kolkata and Ahmedabad.
- This was soon followed by establishment of Globsyn Entertainment and Media management School (GEMS).
- Thematically all these three schools address the requirements of high end and emerging careers for the knowledge centric economy.
- Globsyn BPO Academy was launched in 2004. Within 4 months of its inception it has a run up of training 750 students a month for the BPO industry, and is the largest integrated BPO Academy in India.
- Consistent with Globsyn's credo of building Knowledge Infrastructure, Mr. Dasgupta emphasised the need to develop a life long learning system. To achieve that objective Globsyn has set up schoolcircle.com, knowledgepubs, corporate training and computer literacy programmes in colleges thereby encompassing the entire learning life cycle of an individual.
- Globsyn, under the leadership of Mr. Dasgupta, has set up a 100% subsidiary in USA to provide software solutions. The software development arm of Globsyn, Globsyn Infotech, operates on the unique mixed delivery model with project management front-end at USA and backend development at the offshore center in India.
- Globsyn has also entered the Business Process Outsourcing market recently in the areas of digital data & technical support, customer care and transcription & documentation. Globsyn has handled huge data conversion projects for large US firms including Part Search Corporation, USA, CE Interactive etc.
- In 2006, Bikram Dasgupta spearheaded the acquisition of Synlog Systems Limited, a BSE listed software products and solutions organisation. Synergy Log-in presently known as Globsyn Infotech is a specialist product vendor in the Banking and Financial services industry (BFSI) space. It has coverage in the treasury and payments areas; two of the most dynamic areas of Banking today. Its market leading products for dealing rooms, treasury desks and payment hubs are widely implemented in India and abroad. Globsyn Infotech has development centres in Kolkata and Malaysia and marketing/sales offices in New York, Kuala Lumpur and Mumbai.
- In 2007, Globsyn in partnership with Konnects Inc, launched 'India Konnects', India's first Professional and Business Networking portal. India Konnects is a next generation e-platform to help professionals to network and leverage business opportunities globally.
- Bikram Dasgupta has authored a book - "Minds on Fire - an Entrepreneur's Journey" which deals with aspects of his life which, he feels, can benefit young entrepreneurial talent in the country, the development of which remains his pet subject today.
- In 2009 launched 'Asian Institute of Family Business' (AIFB) - India’s first institute dedicated to family run business.
